The Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Commission Bill 2023 was approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet. This commission will now be in charge of hiring instructors in addition to other government educational institutions and institutes receiving government funding. This change intends to streamline the teacher selection process, which was formerly handled by different state selection boards and commissions.

The Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Commission will replace the existing Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Services Commission and Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Seva Chayan Board. It will be a centralized body headquartered in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad). The commission will consist of 12 members and one chairman, appointed by the state government. They will hold their positions for either three years or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first,” said Yogendra Upadhyay, the Higher Education Minister of UP.

In another significant decision, the Cabinet also approved the Water Tourism and Adventure Sports Policy 2023, which will remain valid for the next ten years. This policy will apply to all intra-state and inter-state waterways, air-based activities, and adventure sports, including dams, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and other water bodies. The picturesque regions of Vindhyas and Bundelkhand, along with the foothills of the Himalayas, offer about 16,620 square kilometers of natural beauty, forest areas, flowing rivers, and captivating waterfalls, making it an ideal destination for water-based tourism, adventure sports, and water sports.

Under this policy, the state government aims to develop and promote water-based tourism and adventure sports for the next decade. Jayveer Singh, the Tourism Minister, stated, “The policy will come into effect from the notified date and will be valid for ten years.” The policy also establishes a nodal agency at the regional level to facilitate water-based tourism and adventure sports. This agency will conduct feasibility studies on designated land areas and water sources for such activities and also issue licenses for water-based tourism and adventure sports in each region.”
